Information about Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan

The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan was established on 13th November 2025 through the twenty-seventh amendment under the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973. The establishment of the FCCP reduced the Supreme Court of Pakistan's jurisdiction to that of an appellate court for non-constitutional matters. The Supreme Court continues to hear appeals in civil and criminal cases, while the FCCP exercises ultimate authority in constitutional interpretation and federal-provincial disputes. The court exercises exclusive jurisdiction in constitutional interpretation and disputes between the federal and provincial governments. Its creation transferred many of the constitutional functions previously exercised by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to a separate specialized body. The Federal Constitutional Court is currently composed seven judges including the Chief Justice. The chief justice is the chief judge of the Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan. Mr. Justice Amin Uddin Khan is the current chief Justice of FCC of Pakistan. The Federal Constitutional Court has the exclusive authority to resolve disputes between the federal government and any provincial government, or among the provinces, interpret the Constitution and decide questions of constitutional law, hear appeals from High Courts that involve significant issues of constitutional interpretation, and exercise jurisdiction in cases concerning the enforcement of fundamental rights. Any case pending before another court that falls within this jurisdiction automatically shifts to the Federal Constitutional Court. Its decisions on constitutional interpretation are binding on all other courts, including the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
