Pakistan is a Muslim majority country, and Islam is the state religion in Pakistan. More than 96% of people of Pakistan are Muslim. The Constitution of Pakistan establishes Islam as the state religion. Freedom of religion is guaranteed by the Pakistani constitution, which established a fundamental right of Pakistani citizens, irrespective of their religion, to equal rights. The Constitution also states that all laws are to conform with the injunctions of Islam as laid down in the Quran and Sunnah. Only Muslims are allowed to become the President[19] or the Prime Minister. Hinduism is the second largest religion in Pakistan after Islam and Christianity is 3rd largest religion in Pakistan. Almost all of the people of Pakistan are Muslims or at least follow Islamic traditions, and Islamic ideals and practices. Pakistan has the second largest number of Muslims in the world after Indonesia. Most of Pakistani Muslims are belong to the Sunni sect, the major branch of Islam. There are also significant numbers of Shīa Muslims. The majority of Pakistani Sunnis belong to the Ḥanafiyyah (Hanafite) school, which is one of four major schools or sub sects of Islamic jurisprudence.
