National Assembly Opposition Leader
Umar Ayub Khan is the
Opposition Leader of National Assembly of the Pakistan. He assumed office from
2nd April 2024. Politically he is affiliated with Sunni Ittehad Council SIC.
He was elected member of National Assembly from NA-18 Haripur. He
also served Leader of the Opposition of Punjab Assembly from 2011 to
2013.
Omar Ayub Khan political career started in 2002, when he was elected to the National Assembly as a candidate of the Pakistan Muslim League (Q). He served as the Minister of State for Finance between 2004 and 2007 but lost his seat in the National Assembly in the 2008 election. In 2018, after he was again elected into the National Assembly, this time as a PTI candidate, he was appointed energy minister in Imran Khans cabinet, and he later took on the additional role of petroleum minister in 2019. During a cabinet reshuffle in 2021, Ayub was appointed finance minister.

Omar Ayub Khan is born on 26 January 1968 in Haripur. He earned BBA and MBA degrees from George Washington University in 1993 and 1996 respectively. He is the son of Gohar Ayub Khan, a politician and the grandson of Muhammad Ayub Khan, former President of Pakistan and Commander in Chief of Pakistan Army.
