Azad Kashmir Assembly Information

Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly is the elected assembly of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. The Assembly was established under AJK Interim Constitution Act, 1974 . It is located in Muzaffarabad. There are three main functions performed by the Assembly viz a viz, legislation, management of public money and policy making. After the first meeting of the Assembly, the members take an oath. The Assembly elects, from amongst its members, a Speaker and a Deputy Speaker. After the election of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker, the Assembly cannot transact any other business unless it elects the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is elected in a special session, summoned by the President of Azad Kashmir on a specified day. The specified Minister obtains vote of confidence from the Assembly within 60 days of assuming office.

Information About Azad Kashmir Assembly 2025

There are a total of 49 seats in the Azad Kashmir Assembly Muzaffarabad. Of these 45 are filled by direct elections  in which 33 seats are in Azad Kashmir and 12 seats for Refugees settled in Pakistan. In addition, the reserves 5 seats for women 1 seat for each Ulama and Mushaikh, Overseas Kashmiris and Technocrat. The term of Legislative Assembly in AJK according to Interim Constitution Act is five years unless it is sooner dissolved, from the day of its first meeting and stands dissolved at the expiration of its terms. Prime Minister is the Leader of the house and run the state with help of with his cabinet. AKLA is abbreviation of Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
