Barrister Syed Iftikhar Ali Gilani is the current Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir. He is elected Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on 28th August 2026. He was elected as the 17th Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir with 30 Votes, while his opponent Sardar Mukhtar Ahmad Abbasi who secured 14 votes. He was elected Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir after AJK General elections 2026. He took oath as Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir on August 28, 2026, which was administered acting President Chaudhry Tariq Farooq. Politically he is affiliated with Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Azad Jammu Kashmir. Barrister Syed Iftikhar Gillani contested the 2011 elections from the Pakistan Muslim League (N) platform and won, becoming a member of the Legislative Assembly for the first time. In the 2016 general elections, he secured victory once again on a Pakistan Muslim League (N) ticket and was elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly for a second term, after which he was appointed as the Minister for Education. In the 2026 general elections, he faced defeat in his constituency, after which he was elected to the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly on a reserved seat for technocrats.

Barrister Iftikhar Ali Gillani was born in Muzaffarabad on July 27, 1980. He received his early education in Islamabad, later obtained his bachelor's degree from SOAS University of London, and was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 2005. belongs to a prominent and politically active family of Muzaffarabad. His family is considered among the pioneer and key political families of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in Azad Kashmir.
